Take a moment to look at any lists of “top jobs” in the state of Washington and you will find that most relate heavily to “business”. From the world of aeronautics to the agricultural ventures that dot the southeastern area of the state, most of the big industries, major employers, and fastest growing jobs will touch upon business and management in different ways.

This means that all of these entities thrive and expand, so too is the need for the highly trained business professional. This is why there are so many online colleges in Washington now making it possible to enroll in online MBA programs.

Why online? Think about the logic of this for just a moment…if you are someone who wants to get your MBA it is quite likely that you have already earned a BA or BS, have worked for a while in business or industry, and are simply trying to remain competitive. This means that time spent in the classroom is going to be a serious challenge. Time spent in front of the laptop as you commute home on a train or as you pass the evenings in your living room are an entirely different thing altogether, and this is the basic reason behind the success of the MBA programs offered by the many fine online schools in Washington.

How to Find the Right Online Degrees in Washington

If you are someone interested in an MBA program, you already understand that they are not all alike or identical. This means that you have to begin the process of choosing a school by assessing their curriculum. Before you do that, however, be sure that the school itself has received accreditation from the proper agency or agencies.

For example, when a student enrolls in online nursing schools in Washington they have to be sure the school is accredited and that the program has receive official approval from one of two possible nursing related accrediting groups. The MBA program that you pursue may have a sort of specialization, but it has to be accredited if you hope to have your training viewed as valid.

Only after you have checked out the status of a school’s accreditation should you then spend the time reading up on their curriculum and exploring whether or not they offer the kind of training that will be beneficial to you, and to your future. This means you also want to see if they have things like certificates or special programs that you can use at a later date. For instance, let’s say you are getting an MBA in order to work in forensic accounting of some sort. Be sure that the school has online criminal justice programs that can provide you with even more specialized knowledge at a later date.

Exploring the Online Degree Programs

The following list of schools will have everything from online associates degree programs and online bachelors degree programs, to the online masters degree programs that are of interest to people in the world of business. We list them in alphabetical order:

Anyone living and working in the state of Washington may already understand that it has an economy based on some unique industries. Currently it is the aircraft industry that serves as a major employer, but there are also software and IT firms, the lumber industry, mining, electronics, tourism and serious agricultural activities that form the basis of the economy in the state.

Clearly, this means that the workforce in the state has to have a large range of educational and professional backgrounds too. If you are someone who wants to improve their career while living in the state, we suggest that you explore the online schools in Washington because they can often help you to get the training so essential to a lucrative career in one of the primary industries mentioned above.

Understanding the Schools and Their Accreditation

Something to know about the campus based and online colleges in Washington is that they have to have some sort of accreditation if they can reward you with a viable degree. Though there are many “degree schools” available on line, if you are looking at obtaining any of the truly usable online degrees in Washington you have to double check the accreditation.

We have provided a detailed list of the private, public, for profit and faith based schools offering accredited online degree programs. They will have obtained their certification from the regional agency known as the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities or groups that can include state, regional or national agencies that accredit based on technical or career based focuses.

The Schools with Online Bachelors Degree Programs

Whether you are going to pursue a first degree, a second degree or an advanced degree, we suggest that you begin with a glance at the larger public venues in the state. This is because there are more than 60 schools with online degree options, but the state is also the 13th most populated, and this means that classes will fill quickly and you can give yourself a better chance at nabbing a seat if you go with the larger, public facilities. For example:

Washington State University – this is a massive facility with bachelors, Postbaccalaureate certificate programs, online masters degree programs, post-master’s certificates, and even doctoral programs. They also have a large array of choices in terms of subject area as well;

University of Washington – with branches in Tacoma, Seattle, and Bothell it can be easier for a student to obtain their bachelors, Postbaccalaureate certificate, or even an online masters degree programs here.

Eastern Washington University – located in Cheney on the eastern side of the state, this is a good choice for those looking to graduate with their bachelors or masters degrees.

These are some of the most straightforward places for signing on and obtaining a degree, but you can also explore many of the smaller community colleges or even the prestigious private schools because they are often places to find such lucrative options as online nursing schools in Washington, online MBA programs, or the more immediate online associates degree programs that can help you get your foot in the door right away.

You may be at a point in life when you are wondering if there is a better career path. This is a dilemma faced by millions of people in the modern job market. Fortunately, this is also an era when the opportunity to improve your options is easier than ever. How is that? Online learning is making it possible for you to keep your “day job” as you learn the skills for an entirely new one.

For those living and working in the state of Washington it is helpful to know that there are several very rapidly growing industries that are creating all kinds of jobs and many affiliated positions too.

For example, the expansion of the healthcare industry is creating a demand for people with psychology degrees. The rapid growth in education is also making it necessary for psychologists to be hired as well. The business world is also in dire need of psychology majors as well. You might not understand how a single psychology degree can be so flexible, but it helps to know that psychology isn’t just one single track, it can be dozens of things.

For example, someone with a degree in psychology could be a social worker, could work in the criminal justice system, could be a counselor, they might even work with families or troubled individuals in a private practice…the list goes on and on.

Getting a Degree in Washington

So, if you are someone in Washington looking for an exciting shift in your professional life, explore the many online schools in Washington that also offer a range of psychology degrees. Many make online bachelors degree programs availble, but you can also find online associates degree programs, online criminal justice programs and online masters degree programs too.

The most important thing to consider is the accreditation of the school. Because psychology falls under the category of healthcare and the legal system, you cannot “practice” your trade unless the degree is from a properly accredited organization that has passed the assessment and testing of an official agency. Without this seal of approval your degree will not be valid and you won’t be able to work as a psychologist of any kind!

The Online Colleges in Washington

You may be shocked by the volume of online degree programs available through Washington colleges. Remember that some of the programs are entirely online and some are the “hybrids” that may demand campus participation too. Double check these things if you want to remain a home or office based learner.

The list of schools offering online degrees in Washington includes:

Argosy University – they have a nearly overwhelming list of psychology degrees available entirely online, including BA, doctorates and even MA degrees in all kinds of psychological specializations such as forensics, industrial and sports and exercise;

Central Washington University – offering up a BA and many different masters degrees in psychology;

City University of Seattle – this school has a lot of entirely online programs that include their BA in psychology and some of their master degree programs too;

Seattle Pacific University – this school offers a BA or BS, the MA and MS and a doctorate in psychology;

University of Puget Sound – a very interesting menu of programs that includes the major in psychology with specializations such as clinical, cognition, developmental, industrial, and many more;

University of Washington – this is the biggest psychology department of them all with the BA, BS, masters, doctorates and PhD programs available. Not all are online, but this is one of the strongest resources for this area of study.

There are more than 290 public school districts in the state of Washington and more than 60 accredited colleges and universities – not to mention many technical schools and for profit ventures as well. Simultaneously, there is also a current national decline in the number of people seeking teaching degrees and this has left many states, including Washington, facing a pending shortage of professionally trained, certified, and knowledgeable teachers to fill their schools and colleges.

Fortunately, there are now many online schools in Washington through which people can enroll in online bachelors degree programs and then obtain their teacher certification training.

How it Works

In the state of Washington it is not a complicated or difficult process to become a teacher. The first step is to enroll in an accredited college and obtain the bachelors degree in the area of specialization such as history, English, or math, etc. From the same school or another accredited organization you can then complete the state approved teacher preparation program and past the WEST-B, which is a basic skills test. You also have to pass the WEST-E that shows your expertise in your chosen area of study. Yes, it is that straightforward!

The “glitch” for many people is in getting the original four year degree. That, fortunately, is now a problem that is becoming easier and easier to resolve through enrollment in one of the many online colleges in Washington. For example, if you look at the biggest industries in Washington you would see that they rely heavily on mathematics and science. This means that schools are going to be “beefing up” their science and math departments. You could use this information to enroll in one of the online degree programs that would result in a BS or BA in science or math.

You can then turn to your school’s resources in order to begin the teacher training. Clearly, the trick is to find the schools offering online degrees in Washington that also offer teacher training. This brief discussion is going to focus in on those places and give you a few good tips for getting your bachelors or even your online masters degree programs and then spin it into a teaching degree.

The Right Schools

Like so many other states, Washington’s largest public universities and colleges tend to be the places where you can get an online degree and then follow it up with an advanced degree or your teacher preparation training. For example, consider the following:

Washington State University – this is a four year school with Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities accreditation. It has everything from the BA or BS all of the way up to a doctoral program available (with many of their programs available entirely online). You can visit their website and explore their offerings, but a potential teacher need only know that this school has the BA in Education that is going to help them to begin teaching at the elementary level right away. They can also pursue the bachelors degree in a specific area of study and then complete the professional education courses within the College of Education.

University of Washington – another four year school with Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities accreditation, students can begin with their basic BA or BS in their area of study and then obtain the MA in teaching that allows them to begin teaching at any grade level once the necessary tests have been passed.

These are not the only two online options for those interested in teaching in Washington, but they do illustrate the relative ease with which this professional training can be achieved.

Although a look at a list of the hottest or fastest growing jobs in the state of Washington might make it appear that the technology experts are going to find the most opportunity in fields such as IT, computer science, mathematics, engineering and more…you cannot overlook the number of medical professionals needed in the state as well.

From home health aides to physical therapists, the state of Washington has a strong need for qualified experts with solid educational backgrounds. This is why there are now so many online schools in Washington that offer the basics in healthcare and train people through online associates degree programs and why there are more and more online nursing schools in Washington too.

This discussion is going to look at the fundamentals of online colleges in Washington that offer nursing and medical training, and will also explore a few listings of schools currently making these online degree programs available. Before doing that, however, we need to talk about accreditation and certification…

The Certifying Agencies

All schools, if their diplomas and degrees are to be worth anything, will need to be sure that they have been properly accredited. This means that they have been reviewed by one of the major certification groups in the state. For example, many online degrees in Washington are valid only because the school maintains accreditation through the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Some colleges or universities use the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, or the Higher Learning Commission, or a range of other specialized agencies. The point is to be absolutely certain that this is present before you enroll.

Where online nursing schools are concerned, there is also the need for a program to be accredited by one of the two main nursing organizations – the NLNAC or the CCNE. We are only going to list details of the programs that have been accredited by the appropriate educational groups AND the appropriate nursing groups.

The Schools Available

The following schools have ways of accessing the essential online bachelors degree programs that can get you started in a career in nursing, but don’t overlook the fact that many also make online masters degree programs available too.

Bellevue Community College – they make a health sciences degree available and are NLNAC accredited;

Big Bend Community College – they are a two year school with an actual “school of nursing” that is NLNAC accredited;

Clark College – this is a two year public college with AA and certificate programs that are NLNAC accredited ;

Columbia Basin College – a two year college with a nursing program that is NLNAC accredited;

Eastern Washington University – a major four year school with the ” WSU Intercollegiate College of Nursing” available through the online program (which is CCNE accredited);

Olympic College – a four year program that has the AA and the BS programs in nursing that are NLNAC accredited;

Pacific Lutheran University – this is ranked as one of the finer small colleges in the state of Washington and its nursing program is CCNE Accredited ;

Peninsula College – a four year school with a formal Department of Nursing that has NLNAC accreditation and a full online program;

Seattle Pacific University – a four year school that is considered among the best in the state, it has CCNE accreditation for its nursing program;

Seattle University – though a large program, the proximity to all of the medical facilities in the city make this a good option for someone in the campus or online programs. It has CCNE accreditation;

Tacoma Community College – a two year school offering the AS in nursing with NLNAC accreditation;

University of Washington – an enormous nursing program that is campus based and online, this has BS, MS and certificates that are CCNE accredited; and

Washington State University – another large scale program that has AS, BS, MS and certificate nursing opportunities. It is CCNE accredited.

We hope this gives you a good start in your search for the perfect online nursing degree program for your needs.

When you are already working in any specific industry it can become imperative that you get an advanced degree in order to remain competitive and viable as a worker in your chosen field. When that field is technology related, such as IT, business, or even engineering, it is almost a “must” that you have at least a masters degree.

People living and working in the state of Washington find that their primary industries: aeronautics, computer technologies, business, engineering, healthcare, agriculture and even tourism, demand advanced degrees for many of the best paid jobs. This is why there are so many online colleges in Washington offering an easier way for full time workers to get into online masters degree programs.

Are Online Schools in Washington Easier?

We don’t mean to imply that the use of online degree programs is easier than a campus based education. What we mean is that it is often much easier for someone to sit down at their computer for a few hours per day in order to pursue their degree than it is for them to rearrange their work and family schedules in order to drive to a campus and sit in the classroom.

Of Washington’s 60+ accredited colleges and universities, most of them currently offer online degrees of many kinds. Most extend options for online associates degree programs and online bachelors degree programs, but a vast majority also make the masters programs available for the state’s main industries too.

Accreditation or Not?

You may have noted that we used the words accredited and accreditation a few times, and you do have to be certain that you are enrolled in any of the online degrees in Washington that have already earned this level of approval. This is because a degree from a school without valid accreditation from one of the many approved agencies is actually going to be relatively worthless in terms of your professional life.

Here is a link to all of the accredited online colleges and universities in the state of Washington, and it will identify which agency offered the accreditation and whether a school is private, for profit, faith based or public.

Schools for Masters Degrees

Which schools are the right ones for those seeking advanced degrees? It all really depends upon the area of specialization you have chosen. For instance, if you are considering the online nursing schools in Washington it is going to be necessary to look into those that have something even farther than the masters degrees because there is a need for recertification and professional enhancement. Consider too that anyone in the world of business or management is going to have to be able to offer something in addition to experience, and this is why you may want to look at schools with extensive online MBA programs if you are going to seek to reach the top of your particular field or industry.

You will find that there are many opportunities for advanced learning, it is simply a matter of doing the research. Currently, we recommend starting your investigations with the larger public colleges and then moving on from there. These include:

Washington State University

University of Washington

Eastern Washington University

What can you do with an accounting degree? The real question is what “can’t” you do once you get this sort of education? Consider that today’s accountants are not people stuck at adding machines and behind stacks of files and documents. They are people who work with the government, professionals who get involved in “big business” or industry, people who set up their own businesses, and people who tackle an impressive range of other duties too.

The thing about working as an accountant is that it is always going to be financially and professionally beneficial to have as advanced a degree as possible. For instance, the CPA with an MBA or a masters degree in accounting or accounting practices will find that many more “doors open to them” when they can demonstrate their level of knowledge.

Getting a Degree

The problem for many people is that it is virtually impossible to squeeze a semester or two (or eight!) into their regular workday routine. This is why the online schools in Washington are of such tremendous benefit. Many of them have accounting degrees available, and most of them don’t limit their offerings to “the basics”.

Don’t get us wrong; there are plenty of opportunities to learn the fundamentals of the field, but there are also many accredited online colleges in Washington offering people access to the advanced programs too.

Before we start looking into the locations from which online degrees in Washington are available, let’s go back a few steps to that one word: “accreditation”. When you work as an accountant you are going to get certified by specific exams and tests BUT you cannot even sign up for those tests if you don’t have the proper academic credentials under your proverbial belt. Sometimes it is easy to be tricked into enrolling in online degree programs because they appear valid, but are not actually accredited by the right agencies. The state of Washington uses an array of different groups and it is a good idea to investigate the accreditation of any school you plan on attending.

The Schools

We are going to only recommend accredited programs and online degree programs below. Understand that some of the schools can offer only online associates degree programs, but that others provide online bachelors degree programs, online masters degree programs, online MBA programs suitable for accountants, and more. Spend time choosing the right school if you do intend to take your education as far as possible.
With all of that in mind, we suggest the following public, private, and for profit schools operating in Washington:

Bates Technical College – a two year school with AA in accounting;

Bellevue College – a four year school with the AA and certificate in accounting;

Central Washington University – a four year school with BS and MS programs for accounting;

Lower Columbia College – offering a BS and an AAS in accounting;

Northwest University – a four year school with the BA and the minor in accounting;

City University of Seattle – offering a BS and MS as well as certificates;

Shoreline Community College – extending opportunities for the AA in accounting and certificates of proficiency with all programs available entirely online; and

Washington State University – offering a BA in accounting entirely through the online format.

Clearly, there is diversity in the ways that an accounting degree is offered and it is up to the student to understand if their degree work will have any specific specialization. For example you may look for online degrees in criminal justice in order to get competency in forensic accounting or you may seek online MBA degrees in order to get work as an auditor in a large corporation.

What is one of the surest ways to get offered a more lucrative job? The simplest answer is to have a college degree of some kind. For example, the two-year associates degree is often the key to getting in at the proverbial “entry level” for a more promising career.

When you discuss the need for a college degree in order to get work in the state of Washington, the issue becomes even clearer. This is because the top jobs in the state are related to industries that require some additional training and education that you just don’t get through the traditional high school experience.

What kinds of industries and jobs? Currently, the top or “fastest growing” career is that of mathematics technician. You may be scratching your head over that one, but suffice it to say that someone with a degree in IT, computers, engineering, research, or medicine is probably going to qualify as someone who can operate in a mathematically technical way.

Getting the Goods

In addition to mathematics technicians, the industries in the state are also in need of aircraft specialists of all kinds, software and computer analysts and engineers, biology and agricultural experts, mining professionals, electronics specialists and even people with training in tourism and the hospitality industries. This means that the many online schools in Washington with options such as online MBA programs, online bachelors degree programs and online associates degree programs will be powerful tools for finding lucrative employment.

Because most people hoping to gain access to the job market are already working and living in the state, we are going to focus in on the online associates degrees available because these are a great “starting point”.

Making Decisions

The thing to remember as you consider which industry or field to enter and which of the online colleges in Washington to choose, is that you do want to think of your future options. For instance, if you select a school that offers only the certificates and associates degrees in terms of their online degrees in Washington, you may be limiting your opportunities within that school for the future.

For instance, let’s say you wanted to get into one of the online criminal justice programs to start working as a paralegal or in a courtroom. At a later date you may want to go ahead and get your bachelors or masters degree, and if you opted for a school with limited online degree programs you may have to find a new school.

Because of this, we are recommending some accredited schools with two year programs, but also including some with four year and higher programs as well.

A Good List

Below are accredited schools that can issue valid, useable and certified degrees that can get you started in one of the top industries in the state:

ANY of the state Community Colleges

Bellevue College

Central Washington University

Clark College

Eastern Washington University

Washington State University

University of Washington

Columbia Basin College

Grays Harbor College

If you are not attending college because you think you can’t afford the costs of tuition you need to sit up and pay attention because the many colleges and universities of the state of Washington have an ample amount of support available.

Let’s begin by stating plainly that you may have to take on student loans, but we have to also emphasize that the long term benefits of an education will pay you back a thousand-fold as the years pass. Additionally, when you work with a school’s financial aid office they tend to make sure that you are not getting in over your head or missing out on wonderful things like scholarships and grants.

Begin at the Beginning

So, where to start? Like ALL college students you will have to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. This applies to you whether you are attending online colleges in Washington or using the traditional campus based method. The “FAFSA” is a mandatory document that discloses all sources of income and makes it easy for your school to see the kinds of loans, work study programs, scholarships and aid you will be qualified to receive. You can do this online, but remember that there are rigid deadlines for each school year, so be sure that you have yourself ready and prepared for them.

Following the FAFSA

After your school’s financial office gets a chance to review your documentation relating to the FAFSA results, they are going to be able to let you know about the options available and then steer you towards any other applicable funding. For instance, if you qualify for work study, Pell Grants, or other funding they will be able to let you know right away.

Additionally, your school’s guidance or financial aid office can also steer you towards relevant sources in the area as well. For example, many people qualify for funding from religious organizations, civic groups, community funds, and more. It is often a matter of finding the details and making the application.

For example, let’s say that you are a Native American living and attending school in the state of Washington, there are scholarships specifically for you, but you would have to know where to look for grants and scholarships to find this. Often the school is the best place to start, but feel free to use the link above to check out the entire list.

In addition to broadly based scholarships and grants in the state and at the national level, there are also some online services for students to use in order to find any available or matching monies. There is also the Washington Higher Education Coordinating Board website that makes plenty of financial information available through easy to use links.

The Local Area and the School

Finally, remember to ask the school if there are any ways of earning credit towards tuition in exchange for work. Some students are volunteers in their dorms, at the library, or even on the maintenance crews. Also be sure to ask any employers if they do tuition reimbursement as this is often an untapped resource!

Why would you move to Washington state? This is not a question asked with incredulity or serious doubts, but one that has a functional purpose. For instance, would you move there for the gorgeous landscape? Many people do. Maybe you want to get in on the IT or computer job market that is “booming” in the state? Many also move for that reason too. Maybe you just like that the state consistently ranks among the best places to live in general.

Whatever the reason, we’ll take a look at some of the best places to live in Washington, and we’ll start in the region around the state’s most famous city: Seattle. This is home to more than 500k full time residents and is considered a clean and safe place to live independently or to raise a family. Surrounding this area, however, are some incredibly favorable “suburbs”. Three towns were recently named by CNN as among the best places to live throughout the entire United States, and not just the state of Washington.

Seattle Area

The town of Mukilteo is ranked in ninth place nationally. It has a population of around 20k and is a convenient commuting distance for those interested in working in Seattle. This is not an essential, however, because the aeronautic firm of Boeing is one of the major employers throughout the entire region.

Surprisingly enough, the two other towns ranked highly in Washington are also within the “top twenty” in terms of good places nationally as well. Number fifteen is Sammamish, and though saying the name is a lot of fun, this town is also good for other reasons. Another small city of under 50k, it too has a gorgeous spot on Puget Sound, and this means it is a short drive into Seattle for employment, but again, Boeing aircraft employs many in the area. So too does Microsoft and the online bookseller Amazon.com!

The last of the top three Seattle area cities is Newcastle. It is the smallest at less than 11k full time residents, but it is also convenient to Seattle and full of unique opportunities for work with the nearby IT and tech firms such as Microsoft.

Other Locations

We should emphasize that the Seattle region is not the only “good” or favorable area to live in the state. There is also the entire Spokane area in the eastern portion of the state, and this is also a region in which the schools are excellent, the cultural institutions diverse, and the job market sound. The primary difference is the climate. The eastern region of the state is where cold and dry air dominates and where winter weather can sometimes be unpredictable and severe.

So, as you consider just where to live in Washington state you simply begin by deciding if you want the warm and humid climate of the western regions of the state or the colder and higher altitude locale of the eastern region. Either way, you will find great opportunities for employment and excellent living conditions.
